Marvel Select: Vision Quest — John Byrne’s Classic Vision Saga Returns
![]()
A classic Avengers storyline returns in a new Marvel Select edition as Vision and Ultron reclaim the spotlight on Disney+.

Marvel fans have a timely reason to revisit one of the most memorable Vision storylines in comic-book history. Marvel Select: Vision Quest, published by Panini Books, is bringing John Byrne’s celebrated West Coast Avengers saga back into print alongside a retelling of Vision’s origin.
Scheduled for release on October 1, 2026, this 136-page paperback arrives at an exciting time for the synthezoid Avenger, with Marvel Television’s VisionQuest now streaming on Disney+.
What Is Marvel Select: Vision Quest About?
The story begins with the return of Mockingbird to the West Coast Avengers. But while one familiar teammate reappears, another has mysteriously vanished: Vision.
His wife, the Scarlet Witch, and their fellow Avengers embark on a desperate search to find him. What follows is a dramatic chapter in Vision’s life that challenges his identity, his memories and his relationship with Wanda.
John Byrne takes the West Coast Avengers in unexpected directions, delivering a storyline that remains significant in Vision’s comic-book history. The collection also includes Avengers Origins: Vision, exploring how Ultron’s intended weapon ultimately became one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Who Worked on Vision Quest? Writer and Artist Credits
The collection features work from three credited writers: John Byrne, Kyle Higgins and Alec Siegel.
Byrne wrote and pencilled the original West Coast Avengers #42–45 storyline. His work on the arc was supported by Mike Machlan on inks, Paul Becton on colours and Bill Oakley on lettering.
The additional Avengers Origins: Vision story was written by Kyle Higgins and Alec Siegel, with Stéphane Perger handling the interior artwork, including pencils, inks and colours. Marko Djurdjevic provided the cover art for that original issue.
This combination makes the collection appealing to readers interested in both Vision’s dramatic transformation and his origins as a creation of Ultron.
Why Read Vision Quest Now?
The timing could hardly be more interesting. Marvel’s VisionQuest series is currently streaming on Disney+, bringing Paul Bettany’s Vision back into focus and featuring James Spader’s Ultron.

While the television series follows its own storyline, revisiting the comics offers an opportunity to explore the complicated history between creator and creation. Ultron’s influence on Vision is one of Marvel’s enduring character conflicts, and this collection brings that relationship back into the conversation.
There is also a bigger question for MCU fans: could Vision’s return and Ultron’s reappearance have implications for Avengers: Doomsday?
It is tempting to connect the dots, especially with another major Avengers film on the horizon. However, no direct connection between this reprint and the upcoming movie has been confirmed. We will have to wait and see what Marvel has planned.
