Peacemaker Season 2: A Ruthless Reboot in the DCU — Classy, Edgy and Unapologetically Cena

Peacemaker Season 2 – DCU Reboot, Hot Takes & John Cena Back!
Peacemaker Season 2 makes no apologies, it fully joins James Gunn’s freshly minted DC Universe (DCU) and nukes parts of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). As confirmed by critics and creators alike, this season wipes out the cameo of Justice League scene from Season 1, replacing it with a “Justice Gang” intro lineup including Hawkgirl, Supergirl, Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Superman and Mister Terrific. It’s a cheeky, slick retcon that establishes the new continuity status quo with zero pretense. (Yeah, kind of Complex!)

Despite the reboot, Season 1’s narrative is largely preserved in the DCU except for the Justice League cameo. The opening of Episode 1 (“The Ties That Grind”) features a “Previously in the DCU” montage that embraces the prior arc but directs us away from any fraternal DCEU tie-ins. Gunn admits re-editing Season 1 is cost-prohibitive, so the show simply pivots.
Cast & Cameos — New Faces, Familiar Chaos
- John Cena: Still stealing the show as Chris Smith/Peacemaker—funnier, tougher, and more tragic than before.
- Team Peacemaker: Harcourt, Vigilante, and Economos are back with their awkward brilliance.
- New DCU Heroes: Superman, Supergirl, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern step in to remind us this is the start of something bigger.
- Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo): Bringing more personal drama into Peacemaker’s already messed-up life.

Critics say Peacemaker Season 2 takes the show to the next level. It’s darker, more focused on character, yet still ridiculously funny. John Cena nails it again as the messed up antihero we love to hate The humor is there, but now it comes with real emotion and higher stakes.
Essentially all of Season 1 is canon but the references to the DCEU … are not canon.”
“James has confirmed that our Peacemaker is from the DCU… There’s no DCEU Peacemaker.” via – Reddit
- John Cena’s best ride yet, equal parts brutal, broken and brilliant.
- Smart world-building & tight integration into the DCU without losing story focus.
- Emotional depth, introspection and grief carry the humor to a new edge.
Peacemaker Season 2 is a fresh start wrapped in chaos, redemption, and sardonic humor. It’s classy, edgy and unapologetically Cena as the most dysfunctional patriot. A darker, funnier and more heartfelt entry that reinvents the character and powers the DCU forward with style. Stay tuned for the rest of the ride, The Ties That Grind might just be the best crash landing yet. Cheers – Comics Byte!!
