![]()
On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav, we revisit the legendary Sundarkaand through the beautiful graphic novel Triumph of Hanuman. A visual tribute to devotion, courage, and faith. Jai Bajrang Bali!
Every year in India, Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated with immense devotion and spiritual energy. Temples are filled with chants of “Jai Bajrang Bali”, devotees offer sindoor, laddus and prayers reciting Hanuman Chalisa, and the stories of Lord Hanuman’s courage and devotion are remembered across the country.

Just a few days after Ram Navami, which marks the birth of Prabhu Shri Ram, devotees celebrate the birth of his greatest devotee and protector – “Lord Hanuman”.
According to Hindu scriptures, Hanuman is among the seven Chiranjeevis, the immortals who continue to exist on Earth. It is believed that he still walks among us, waiting patiently for the end of Kaliyuga, when he will assist Lord Vishnu’s Kalki Avatar in defeating the evil force known as Kali Purush.
On this sacred occasion, we revisit one of the most powerful portrayals of Hanuman in modern comics – the beautiful graphic novel “Sundarkaand: Triumph of Hanuman” by Campfire Graphic Novels.

This book is not just a comics. It is a visual offering to the spirit of devotion, strength, and faith that Hanuman represents.
The Significance of Sundarkaand
Among all the chapters of the Ramayan, Sundarkaand occupies a unique and sacred position. While other sections of the epic focus on war, exile, or political struggles, Sundarkaand is a celebration of faith, devotion, courage, and divine purpose.
The word “Sundar” itself means beautiful, and many scholars believe this chapter is called Sundarkaand because it beautifully describes the devotion of Hanuman towards Lord Ram.

For millions of devotees, Sundarkaand is not just a story but a spiritual practice. Reciting it is believed to remove obstacles, bring strength during difficult times, and fill the heart with courage and positivity. This is why Sundarkaand is among the most widely recited sections of the Ramcharitmanas.
At its core, Sundarkaand represents the moment when devotion transforms into action. Hanuman is not only powerful; he is humble, disciplined and completely surrendered to Lord Ram. His strength comes not from ego but from bhakti (devotion).
Through Hanuman, Sundarkaand teaches an eternal lesson – “When faith is pure and intentions are righteous, even the impossible can become possible“.
It is this powerful message that has kept the chapter alive in temples, homes and spiritual gatherings for centuries. And today, through graphic storytelling, this timeless episode continues to inspire a new generation of readers.
Story Details
“Ravan, the king of Lanka, has abducted and imprisoned Lord Ram’s wife Sita. As they search for her, Shree Ram and his brother Lakshman meet Sugreev, the king of the monkey kingdom. In aid of Ram, Sugreev sends out search teams in all directions.
One of the teams discovers that Sita is imprisoned in Lanka, the rich and splendid city of demons across the southern sea.

The wide and tumultuous sea poses a challenge. There is only one who can cross it and bring back news of Sita.
He is Hanuman – son of the Wind, advisor to Sugreev and the greatest devotee of Ram.
Based on an episode from the Ramcharitmanas by the poet Tulsidas, this timeless story needs little introduction to readers familiar with the Indian epic Ramayan.
Hanuman is strong and invincible, but he is also brave, humble and deeply devoted. It is this unwavering devotion that allows him to overcome every challenge.”

It is simply our love, respect, and offering to Lord Hanuman on the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav.

Trying to document every event of Sundarkaand would take an entire book by itself. Yet this graphic novel manages to capture the essence of the epic in just 74 pages.
It is a reminder that ‘true strength comes from devotion, humility and faith’.
If you are a fan of mythology, comics or simply wish to add something spiritually meaningful to your bookshelf, Sundarkaand: Triumph of Hanuman truly deserves a place in your collection.
Sometimes, graphic novels are not just stories. Sometimes, they are prayers in illustrated form.“
