The Phantom: The Elusive Commander in The Patrol – Indrajal Comics
Rediscover the Phantom’s mystery In The Patrol by Indrajal Comics.
In Indrajal Comics, published on January 15, 1968, under The Phantom – The Sixth Man, readers are treated to a short story titled “The Patrol”. The Sixth Man was originally part of the 1964 Gold Key story written by Bill Harris & script by Lee Falk, with art by Bill Lignante, the story was later brought to India by Indrajal Comics which also featured this short two page comic strip.
The tale follows a newly commissioned officer in the Jungle Patrol who, despite meeting the commanding officer, never encounters the true commander. Unknown to the new officer, the Phantom, famously known as “The Ghost Who Walks,” is the unseen leader. His commands are delivered through a safe, where the patrol receives their orders. This reinforces his mystique, showing why “The Phantom moves like lightning…” (Old Jungle Saying) and remains an invisible yet powerful force.
The short story beautifully captures the intrigue surrounding the Phantom’s role in the Jungle Patrol. His presence is felt throughout, but no one ever sees him, leaving behind no trace of his movements. It’s a nostalgic piece that reminds fans why the Phantom has endured as a beloved and elusive character for decades.
For fans of classic comic strips – ‘The Patrol’ is keeping the legend of the Phantom alive. Cheers Phans – Comics Byte!!
