Today, we celebrate the birthday of one of the most recognisable faces in global pop culture. Ever since winning the Miss World crown in 1994, Aishwarya has been turning heads, breaking stereotypes and making the world take notice. From Bollywood blockbusters to the Cannes red carpet, she has always known how to make an entrance.

But there is one particular avatar of hers that deserves a little extra attention from comic book fans. Think gorgeous looks, razor-sharp confidence, a mischievous smile and a talent for getting away with things.

Yes, we’re talking about Sunehri from Dhoom 2 and her rather interesting resemblance to DC Comics’ legendary feline femme fatale, Catwoman!

A Global Beauty with a Taste for the Dramatic

Let’s get one thing straight. Aishwarya Rai has never needed an introduction.

Winning Miss World was just the beginning. Over the years, she became an international star, representing Indian cinema on some of the world’s biggest platforms. And then there is Cannes!

For more than two decades, her appearances at the Cannes Film Festival have been fashion events in their own right. Whether it’s a breathtaking gown or an experimental look, Aishwarya knows how to command attention. The cameras follow, the internet reacts and the fashion world gets something to talk about.

But behind that elegance is an actress who has never been afraid to experiment with her on-screen personality.

And boy, did she have fun with that in 2006!

Meet Sunehri: Beauty, Brains and a Little Bit of Trouble!

When Dhoom 2 arrived in 2006, it brought together some spectacular action, stylish heists and an unforgettable face-off between Hrithik Roshan’s Aryan and Abhishek Bachchan’s Jai Dixit.

But stealing the show? Well, that was Sunehri’s department!

Played by Aishwarya Rai, Sunehri was a clever, ambitious and rather unpredictable thief. She had the looks, the confidence and the attitude to make even the most carefully planned heist look like a fashion statement.

And here’s where things get particularly interesting for comic book enthusiasts.

Sunehri Meets Catwoman: Coincidence or Comic Book Inspiration?

Long before Sunehri made her grand entrance on the big screen, comparisons with Catwoman, DC Comics’ iconic feline antiheroine, were already appearing in the media.

A November 2005 report in The Times of India described Aishwarya’s forthcoming character as having Catwoman-like villainy.

Now, think about it. A beautiful, intelligent and agile thief who knows exactly how to play her cards. Someone who can be charming one moment and completely unpredictable the next. Sounds familiar, Batman fans?

That’s the fascinating parallel between Sunehri and Selina Kyle.

Catwoman has spent decades stealing hearts, jewels and occasionally Batman’s peace of mind. Sunehri brought a similar flavour of stylish mischief to mainstream Indian cinema.

Of course, the two characters have their own identities and fictional worlds. Sunehri isn’t an official DC character, nor is Dhoom 2 a Batman adaptation. But the Catwoman comparison makes her character even more interesting to revisit.

And let’s be honest: Aishwarya certainly had the screen presence to pull off that feline femme fatale energy!

A Little Dhoom, A Little Comic Book History

Interestingly, the Dhoom franchise also found its way into the world of Indian comics.

In 2012, Yash Raj Films launched Yomics, a publishing initiative that explored the possibilities of bringing popular film properties into graphic storytelling.

One of its publications was Dhoom: Redux 893, featuring Jai Dixit and Ali Akbar.

While Sunehri’s cinematic appearance should not be mistaken for an actual comic-book appearance, the Yomics initiative remains an interesting chapter in the relationship between Indian cinema and comics.

It’s another reminder that popular characters and stories can travel across entertainment mediums, even when their individual journeys remain separate.

Happy Birthday to the Queen of the Spotlight!

From Miss World to Cannes, from glamorous Bollywood roles to the mischievous Sunehri, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has never been someone who quietly blends into the background.

She knows how to make an entrance, own a frame and leave an impression.

And for comic book fans, the Catwoman-like flavour of Sunehri gives us one more reason to revisit Dhoom 2.

After all, not every day do we get to celebrate someone who can steal the spotlight without even planning a heist!

Happy Birthday, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! Keep stealing the show. Cheers – Comics Byte!!
