Altered States: Warlords: Red Sonja, Tarzan, Vampirella & John Carter Unite
Dynamite’s Altered States: Warlords brings Red Sonja, John Carter, Dejah Thoris, Tarzan and Vampirella together in an alternate Barsoom.
Dynamite Entertainment is bringing some of its most iconic pulp and comicbook characters together in Altered States: Warlords, a four-issue limited series set in an alternate version of Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom.
Written by David Avallone with art by Mariano Benitez-Chapo, the story begins when Red Sonja, the She-Devil of Hyrkania, is transported to ancient Barsoom. Her arrival changes the planet’s history, setting the stage for John Carter to encounter a Mars very different from the one he knows. Alongside him is Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, as the battle for Barsoom intensifies.
The crossover expands dramatically when Tarzan, the Lord of the Jungle, is transported from Earth to Barsoom and joins Red Sonja and John Carter against the Holy Therns and Goddess Issus.
The conflict revolves around the mysterious Eighth Ray, turning the story into a full scale sword and science fantasy adventure. Then, in the final chapter, Vampirella, Princess of Draculon, arrives aboard a mysterious starship but whether she will save Barsoom or become its newest threat remains one of the story’s biggest questions.
The series launched in June 2026, with #1 arriving June 10, #2 on July 8 and #3 on August 19. Issue #4 is scheduled for September 23, 2026, according to Dynamite’s current listing, although an earlier solicitation carried a different date.
While Warlords is not a publisher wide crossover event, it certainly feels like one: Red Sonja, John Carter, Dejah Thoris, Tarzan and Vampirella are being brought together in one altered reality where sword and sorcery, planetary romance, jungle adventure and supernatural horror collide. For fans of classic pulp heroes, especially Tarzan and Red Sonja, this could be one of Dynamite’s most intriguing crossovers of 2026. Comics Byte!!
