Special Trivia: How Heloise, Phantom’s Daughter, Got Her Name!
Did you know that Phantom and his wife Diana Palmer have two children, Kit and Heloise? But how did Heloise get her unique and meaningful name? It all goes back to a legendary figure from the Phantom Chronicles: ‘Heloise of Hanta’.

In the Sunday comic strip story “The Name” (1979), Diana, while searching for the perfect name for their newborn daughter, comes across an inspiring entry in the Phantom’s historical records. She reads the story of Heloise of Hanta, a noble queen who was misunderstood by her people as a “witch.”

In truth, Heloise was a wise and compassionate leader. When caravans were being attacked and blamed on the so called “Hanta Witch,” the Phantom investigated and uncovered that masked men, not Heloise, were behind the attacks. The Phantom cleared her name and later, the 8th Phantom married Heloise, linking her forever to the Phantom family legacy.

Deeply moved by Heloise’s story of courage and kindness, Diana chose to name her daughter after this historical heroine. Illustrated masterfully by Sy Barry, this part of the Phantom lore showcases the seamless and iconic collaboration between Lee Falk and Barry – a partnership that has created some of the most memorable and beautiful moments in comic book history.
