Here it is! A look back at the iconic DC house ad for Batman’s first solo comics. 85 years strong!

“Here It Is!” – With those thrilling words, DC Comics launched Batman #1 on April 25, 1940, an issue that would forever change the landscape of superhero comics. This legendary comic book, priced at just 10 cents, gave Batman his first standalone title after a successful debut in Detective Comics #27. It also introduced the world to two of the most iconic characters in pop culture history: The Joker and Catwoman.

The vintage house ad promoting Batman #1 originally appeared in Detective Comics #39 (March 1940). The ad showcased a vibrant cover featuring Batman and Robin swinging over Gotham City, promising “all new material – never before published”. It was an early example of comic book marketing brilliance, building hype for what would become one of the most collectible issues in comic book history.
